This year we were able to buy and erect our new chicken house and replace the chicken troughs with new feeders and watering facilities. We are in the process of enclosing the runs with weld mesh metal fencing, to provide a secure, comfortable outdoor area for the chickens.
The Skills Academy area on the farm continues to be developed. The indoor area is used for joinery/painting and decorating and a new outdoor area for bricklaying has been built for the delivery of the BTEC first in Construction. The classroom, washroom and toilet are shared facilities with Farm Club members.
Progress is being made in the planning and introduction of BTEC first Land Based courses for September 2011. It is also seems likely that students from other local schools will take these courses as part of the Uttlesford Consortium.
Lynn Grist joined us in the early summer of 2010 as Farm and Skills Academy Technician and has been working with enthusiasm and commitment in her role as stockperson.
Our sales of vegetables and veg boxes have gone well this year. We have worked hard on the plots and in the greenhouses.
So much so that we were filmed for Market Kitchen Big Adventure on the Good Food Channel with chefs Rachel Allen and Judy Joo. They used our eggs and carrots for the programme which was broadcast on Jan 18th.They were very impressed with our farm and the members involved were a credit to the school and club.
